Cerebral venous thrombosis associated with COVID-19 infection: causality or coincidence?

In this paper, the authors report 2 cases of patients presenting with cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) associated with COVID-19 infection.

In this paper, the authors report 2 cases of patients presenting with cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) associated with COVID-19 infection. The authors advised that clinicians should be cautious when managing patients presenting with headache with or without other neurological symptoms, especially those with known risk factors for venous thromboembolic disease, as in the case of the two patients reported in this article. They underline that these isolated results require further large studies to confirm a possible causal relationship between CVT and COVID-19 infection. Moreover, they conclude that careful examination of cerebral venous sinuses should be systematically performed in patients with COVID-19 infection to look for CVT in the appropriate clinical context. Conversely, patients presenting with acute CVT in the current pandemic setting may benefit from simultaneous chest imaging to rule out COVID-19.
