Each step was established by expert consensus and supported by a review of current literature. Notably, the Consensus Statement is endorsed by the European Headache Federation and the European Academy of Neurology. The main points refer to the diagnosis, acute and preventive treatment, clinical management and follow-up of patients who suffer from migraine. In particular the article addresses: (1) the clinical features, diagnostic criteria and differential diagnosis of migraine; (2) the value of patient centricity and patient education to ensure treatment adherence and satisfaction with care provision; (3) the best practices for acute and preventive treatment of migraine in various patient populations, including adults, children and adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and older people; (4) the evaluation of treatment response and management of treatment failure; (5) the management of complications and comorbidities of migraine; (6) the importance of planning long-term follow-up to in order to maximize treatment effectiveness and patients’ adherence.
