Sex differences for Social Determinants Associated with Lewy Body Dementia Onset and Diagnosis

This study explored how social determinants influence Lewy body dementia (LBD) onset and whether these effects differ by sex. Participants with LBD (51 females, 79 males) and age-matched controls completed surveys on socioeconomic and demographic factors. Compared with controls, individuals with LBD had lower education, income, and subjective social status—differences that were more pronounced in men. Among LBD participants, women were more likely to live alone and be unmarried. After adjusting for these social variables, women showed a younger age at cognitive impairment onset and diagnosis than men. These findings highlight that social and biological factors interact to shape LBD onset, emphasizing the need for inclusive, diverse research
