EAN Scientific & Coordinating Panels MG elections
Election 2026-2028
EAN Scientific & Coordinating Panels Management Group
The 32 EAN Scientific & Coordinating Panels are one of the strongest threads within the community and are often referred to as the organisation’s “scientific backbone”. The Panels have a hand in everything the EAN does from a scientific point of view, including coordinating clinical research, disseminating good clinical and research practice, assisting in planning the EAN annual congress, supporting the EAN’s educational efforts, and producing guidelines that assist neurologists in daily practice.
Each panel is run by its own Management Group, elected by the Panel members.
About Scientific & Coordinating Panel Management Groups
- Management Group is the responsible partner of the Scientific Committee.
- The standard size of the Management Group is 3-6 elected persons, including two co-chairpersons.
- The duration of the mandate of a member on the Management Group is limited to a maximum of 6 years (3 x 2 years) in succession.
- The term of the Chairperson is 2 years, with the possibility of re-election once (2 x 2 years), if the limit of being a member of the Management Group (max. 6 years) is not exceeded.
- After a two-year break a past Management Group member can apply again for any Management Group position.
- It is not allowed to co-chair more than one panel.
The Panel Management Groups serve as a link to the partner societies EAN has a Memorandum of Understanding with. These partner societies are asked to nominate a representative to sit on the Management Group and act as a liaison. In addition, EAN Resident and Research Fellow Section (RRFS) nominates their representatives who sit on the Management Groups to ensure that future generation of neurologists is involved in all scientific activities.
For information on the Panel composition and the tasks of the Management Groups, please consult the Panel rules.
Important Change:
From now on the Coordinating Panel Management Group Elections will take place at the same time as the Management Group Elections for the Scientific Panels. The hand-over of the co-chairpersonship and Management Groups will take place immediately after the election.

Who makes up the Panels?
The Scientific Panels (SP) consist of:
- Individual Panel members - every FEAN, Full, Corresponding, Resident and Student individual member with an interest in the special field covered by the SP has the right to become a member of the SPs.
Membership duration is unlimited, as long as yearly dues are settled.
- Institutional Panel members - every EAN Full Institutional Member, i.e. European National Neurological Society, can name one national representative who has special qualifications in the field, and one neurologist in training to become a member of the SPs.
Members from national societies need to be re-appointed by the National Society every two years, along with the election. Head Office will contact national societies for nominations in October every other year.
- Resident and Research Fellow Section (RRFS) nominates its representative to each SP, who will sit on the MG.
- Memoranda of Understanding may include the privilege that the Partner (subspecialty) societies can propose members of the Panel/MG. MG members nominated by the subspecialty societies are not invited to participate in the election.
The Coordinating Panels (CP) consist of:
- Similarly to Scientific Panels, every FEAN, Full, Corresponding, Resident and Student individual member with an interest in the field covered by the Coordinating Panels has the right to become a member. Membership duration is unlimited, as long as yearly dues are settled. Possibly, Members/Management Group Members nominated by Partner societies can join the Coordinating Panels based on signed Memoranda of Understanding. Also, RRFS nominates its representative to each Coordinating Panel, who will sit on the Management Group.
- Instead of Institutional Panel Members, there are Core Group Members - Every SP has a right to nominate up to 2 persons to represent the respective SP in a CP. These members form the core group. Nominations should be submitted by the SP Co-Chairs every 2 years, with the possibility of re-nomination.
