EAN Tournament Finals

On behalf of the Programme Committee, we are glad to announce that the annual Tournament for Neurologists in Training has been reformatted for the EAN Congress 2024 in Helsinki!

Session format

Programme Schedule:  Saturday, 29 June
Duration: up to 90 minutes
Chairs:4 chairs who are all tournament evaluators
Total number of presenters:up to 12 speakers (6x Clinical and 6x Basic)
Time per speaker:5 minutes (3-minute spotlight presentation + 2-minute Q&A)

Formerly split into two sessions, the clinical and basic tournaments will this year be hosted together in a merged session.
In 90 minutes, attendees will have the opportunity to hear up to 12 presentations of the best clinical and best basic abstracts submitted for EAN Congress.
The EAN Tournament session will also be broadcasted live on EAN TV!

Presentation

Different from the traditional EAN Tournaments for Neurologists in Training, the top speakers in the new EAN Tournament Finals share their studies without the security of a fancy presentation or a lectern – only a spotlight and a microphone at the centre stage! The finalists are given strictly 5 minutes on stage. Three minutes to share their study and approximately two minutes to answer questions from the session chairs or from the audience.

Jury

A panel of experts will score all presenters on the scientific interest of the presentation, relevance of reported data, methodology used, statistical analysis, quality of results, presentation skills, quality of presentation, logical build-up of presentation, and ability to adequately answer questions. Winners and runners-up will be announced at the end of the session.

Financial support

Candidates selected for the tournament will receive a bursary consisting of free registration to the Congress, up to four nights’ hotel accommodation, and a travel grant.

Prize

The winner of each group will receive a prize consisting of: free registration to the 11th EAN Congress in Seville 2025, up to four nights’ hotel accommodation, a travel grant as well as a certificate.

The runner-up of each group will receive a prize consisting of: free registration to the 11th EAN Congress in Seville 2025 and a certificate.

Prizes are not transferable and will not be paid off in cash.

More information on application and selection

Eligible are EAN Resident and Research Members or students from EAN member countries. For further information, please check our EAN RRFS and student membership packages here.  Candidates who have been selected will be contacted within days of abstract acceptance.

For EAN it is essential that individuals in training for neurology and neurologists in their early career who have prepared their own work —and had it submitted and accepted for presentation at the congress—have the opportunity to present it and to take part in the annual EAN congress.

Quite often, this is not possible due to limited financial resources. For this reason, it is in EAN’s interest to reward applicants with the best abstracts, bursaries valued up to 4-night accommodation and a free registration to the Congress corresponding to € 1.150,-.
